クルトンのためのストリーキング/2022-23

streak(ing)は「疾走する」などの意味を持つが、日本語でストリーキングと言えば「公共の場を全裸で走り抜けるパフォーマンス」のことだ。度胸試しや自己顕示、何らかの主張や強い非難の意思を示すことを目的としており、1973年頃からアメリカの大学生の間で流行しはじめた。現在まで大学の伝統行事として続いているものもあるが、さまざまな環境の変化や撮影機器の普及により、参加者は減少しているらしい。一方、ストリークは「1マイル以上のランニングを毎日続ける習慣」を指すそうだ。

1マイルレースの世界記録は1999年にモロッコのヒシャム・エルゲルージ選手が樹立した3分43秒13で、24年もの間破られていない。友人との会話の中でストリーキングパフォーマンスとストリークの習慣を混同したことに端を発し、わたしがこの世界記録を超えるスピードで1マイルを疾走（ストリーク/ストリーキング）しながら、最近のマイブームであるクルトンについて話す映像を制作することにした。無理矢理に縮めた映像と音声は軽快で楽しげだが、滅茶苦茶で意味を成さない。しかし、ストリーキングパフォーマンスにおいても、通過儀礼的な位置付けでの参加者にはほとんどの場合これといった主義主張はないだろう。時代に即して形が変わっても、本質は変わっていないのかもしれない。

これは、全裸になることへの抵抗から従来のストリーキングへの参加をためらっている人達に提案する、新しい形のストリーキングパフォーマンスである。

The Streaking for Croutons/2022-23

One of meaning of “Streak(ing)” is to run at full speed. In Japanese, ストリーキング(streaking) means the act of running naked through a public area for publicity, as a prank, a dare, or a form of protest. It is gradually decreasing because of various environmental changes. On the other hand, ストリーク(streak) means the habit to jog 1 mile everyday.  It started from confusing the act with the habit when I talked about running with my friends. The world record of mile run is 3:43.13 by Hicham El Guerrouj (Morocco), 1999. I tried to make a video work that I streak 1 mile faster than the world record talking about croutons. The video looks delightfully. But it has no meaning because I forced to make it short. Similarly, in streaking acts, most of the people to participate as rites of passage have no ideology. Although the method changes with the times, the essence is possibly same. This is a suggestion about new act of streak with clothes on.
